Maternity Information
What we do during your appointments. Everything you need to know.
New obstetrical patients can expect to see the Nurse Midwife or Physician on their first visit. Services on that day will include the following:
- Examination
- Limited ultrasound
- Bloodwork & pelvic exam
After the initial visit, you will rotate between all OB providers. You will be seen every 4 weeks until 28 weeks, and then every 2 weeks until 36 weeks. After 36 weeks, you will be seen every week.
IMPORTANT MILESTONES:
Harmony testing can be done at 12 weeks, which is a test for genetic disorders. Please check with your insurance company as it may not be a covered test.
Before your 20 week visit, you must decide if you want the maternal serum screening (triple screen) test for detection of Down’s Syndrome, Trisomy 18, and spina bifida.
At 20 weeks, ultrasound for fetal assessment is performed. If everything is normal at 20 weeks, there are no other routine ultrasounds.
At 28 weeks, lab work to screen for anemia and diabetes is performed, and Rhogam is administered if the patient is Rh negative.
