Pregnancy Medication Protocol

What medical is safe you use during pregnancy? Below is a list of medication for several symptoms.

Sinus Drainage/Allergy
Benadryl, Tylenol Sinus, Actifed, Sudafed (NOT Sudafed-PE), Chlor-Trimeton, Zyrtec, Claratin. You may also try using a neti-pot sinus rinse with sterile water. If green drainage is present, patient needs to be seen in the primary care office.

Cough (non-productive)
Benylin Expectorant, Robitussin

Cough (productive)
Benylin Multi-Symptom, Robitussin DM, Hall’s Cough Drops, Sucrets

Nasal Congestion
Normal Saline Drops, Afrin (Can only use OTC nasal spray for 3 days or will get rebound effect with the exception of normal saline drops)

Pain
Tylenol, Extra-Strength Tylenol or generic, aspirin free Excedrin Tension

Heartburn
Maalox, Mylanta, Amphojel, Tums, Rolaids. 3 Tums can be used as Calcium supplements. Pepcid, Zantac, Prevacid. Eat smaller meals avoiding acidic foods

Constipation
Metamucil, Citrucel, Fibercon, Colace, Miralax

Diarrhea
Imodium A.D., Kaopectate

Muscle Aches
Deep heat rub, heating pad (on 20 minutes, off 20 minutes)

Sudden Muscle Injury
Ice packs for the first 24 hours: 10 minutes on/10 minutes off, then switch to heating pad: 20 minutes on/20 minutes off. This is for a pulled back or leg muscle

Itching Skin Rash
Caladryl, Calamine Lotion, Aveeno Soaks, Benadryl, Sarna anti-itch lotion, and Granpa’s Pine Tar Soap

Insomnia
Tylenol PM

Nausea/Vomiting
Ginger (ale, teas, candies), peppermint, Sea Bands bracelets, acupressure/acupuncture, and small but frequent meals
